Home Rehabilitation

 How it works?

Housing Greensboro is a non-profit Community Housing Development Organization that acquires existing houses to renovate and sell to individuals who desire to own their home. We rehabilitate the home to like-new condition including many of the major systems in the house. We also make upgrades to the energy efficiency of the home certifying them through Advanced Energy’s System Vision standards or Home Performance with Energy Star resulting in guaranteed below average heating and cooling costs.

Our goal is to make sure the new homeowner can afford to buy the house and also maintain its upkeep for years to come. As a member of the New Homes Loan Pool Program, Housing Greensboro can also access additional financing options available to homebuyers through NCHFA.

Homebuyer Eligibility:
The buyer must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must own and occupy the home that is purchased. It can not be used as a rental property.
  2. Must have total family income below 80% of the area median income for Guilford County (see 2011 chart below) based upon the number of adults and children living in the home.

Homebuyer Requirements:
Every homebuyer must complete the following educational courses on home ownership:
  1. Attend at minimum a 6 hour HUD certified Home Ownership Class. This course will provide information on how to buy and finance a home in preparation for ownership. This will help prepare a new homeowner for the costs and responsibilities of owning a home. These courses are available from Consumer Credit Counseling Services, Greensboro Housing Coalition and the Guilford County Homeownership Center.
  2. After moving into the home, a Housing Greensboro staff member will review all of the major systems of the home showing where various systems are located and how to set them properly. A routine home maintenance checklist will be explained and left at the home for future reference and use.
